Atypical presentation of central retinal artery occlusion.

چکیده
Dear Editor, Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) typically presents with a retinal “cherry red spot”. In CRAO, infarction of the retinal nerve fi bre layer renders the retina opaque. The fovea, where this layer is absent, retains its normal orangered colour due to perfusion from the underlying choroidal vessels, resulting in the appearance of the “cherry red spot”. Retinal survival time has been shown to range from 0 to 105 minutes.1 If the embolus gets dislodged within this time, retinal ischaemia can occur but to a milder and limited severity. We describe 2 cases of limited CRAO highlighting the need for awareness of atypical presentations where the “cherry red spot” is absent.

Detection of underdiagnosed concurrent branch retinal artery occlusion in a patient with central retinal vein occlusion using spectral domain optical coherence tomography
BACKGROUND Combined branch retinal artery and central retinal vein occlusion is a rare condition that has been infrequently reported. This case report, aside from reporting the above-mentioned condition, highlights the importance of performing spectral domain optical coherence tomography in establishing a complete diagnosis, especially in uncertain and complicated cases. We also present spectra...
متن کاملCentral Retinal Artery Occlusion in Takayasu's Arteritis as the First Presentation of the Disease
Takayasu's arteritis (TA) is a chronic inflammatory granulomatous vasculitis which affects large and medium arterial vessels. The disease involves especially subclavian arteries and aortic branches but it can consist of any arteries. The major pathology is granulomatous panarteritis with intima proliferation and defects of the elastic lamina of the vessels. We present a case of central retinal ...

positive and 95%when there is a negative culture. In theUSA, 90% of adult tuberculosis cases were confirmed by culture. In contrast, only 28% of the children with tuberculosis had positive cultures, and here PCR appears to be more reliable [8]. We present the first case of extrapulmonary tuberculosis in a child with severe s-JIA treated with infliximab who also developed a fatal (opportunistic)...
متن کاملSequential occlusion of the branch retinal artery and branch retinal vein in a patient with hypertension: an interventional case report
BACKGROUND There are some cases that reported central retinal vein occlusion accompanied by ciliary artery occlusion, however, combined branch retinal artery and vein occlusion is a rare condition that has been infrequently reported. We describe in this report one case of retinal vein occlusion and branch retinal artery occlusion occurring simultaneously. CASE PRESENTATION A 50 year-old woman...
متن کاملEvaluation of bilateral central retinal artery occlusions with optical coherence tomography-based microangiography: a case report
BACKGROUND We report a case of bilateral central retinal artery occlusion and the evaluation of retinal vasculature and capillaries by using optical coherence tomography angiography. CASE PRESENTATION A 75-year-old white man presented with central retinal artery occlusion in one eye and underwent a carotid angioplasty. Upon discontinuing anticoagulant, he had a subsequent central retinal arte...
